Seventh Annual Miracles for Myeloma 5K Run/Walk

Miracles will happen again!!!

The Seventh Annual Miracles for Myeloma 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Oak Ridge Park in Clark. The course is staged entirely within the park on paved paths that are wheel chair-friendly. For serious runners the race path is a USATF certified course. Medals will be given for best times in various age categories. You can participate by running, walking, or making a donation. People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate in this community-wide fundraiser. Along with a DJ and refreshments there will also be children’s activities.

Multiple Myeloma is an incurable cancer of plasma cells which attacks and destroys bone. Miracles for Myeloma raised over $80,000 at last year’s event. All proceeds are donated to the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF). That money went directly towards a research grant that was awarded at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) conference in December. The entry fee is $30 per walker or runner if registered before September 1. Registration after that date is $35. Children ages 4 to 12 may register for a fee of $20. Runners and walkers may also register for a fee of $40 on the same day of the event, so early registration is encouraged. For pre-registered participants, T-shirts and event bags will be available. Registration will open at 8:00 a.m. with the race officially starting at 9:30 a.m. A Remembrance Path has become a touching tradition. Maroon and white balloons attached to placards with names of people being honored or remembered are placed along the running path. Maroon balloons are designated for patients living with myeloma, or other forms of cancer, and white balloons are in remembrance of those who have passed on from cancer. Anyone can purchase a remembrance sign for an additional $25.00 donation. A brief personal message can be included on the placard. The co- founders of the race are Clark residents Ron and Sheree Pask, and Westfield resident Gina Klemm. Sheree is a myeloma survivor and a teacher at The Presbyterian Nursery School and Kindergarten in Westfield. Gina’s brother Frank Guarino died of the disease in 2012.
