Annual National Night Out with the North Plainfield Police Department

The North Plainfield Police Department will hold its 15th Annual National Night Out – America’s Night Out Against Crime celebration and Public Safety Vehicle Expo on Tuesday, August 6th, 2019. The event will feature free, fun and informational activities for the whole family.  The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. in the parking lot across from the Municipal Building at 263 Somerset Street.  “National Night Out is an opportunity to bring together the community residents and members of the public safety community in an informative and fun manner, thus building relationships with the community we serve,” said North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti.

This year’s National Night Out will include a display of public safety emergency equipment from both North Plainfield Police Department and the North Plainfield Fire Department as well as equipment from the tactical and dive/rescue elements of the Somerset County Emergency Response Team. Handouts and pamphlets will also be available on topics such as domestic violence, gang awareness, identity theft, block watch associations, and crime prevention.

Safeguard Document Shredding will be on hand offering borough residents the opportunity to have, at no cost, two shopping bags of private paper shredded to safeguard against identity theft. Additionally, representatives with Somerset County Division of Child Protection and Permanency, the North Plainfield Fire Department, Somerset County S.W.A.T., and the Middle Earth youth organization and both the borough’s Municipal Alliance and Youth Services committees will be on hand.

Features this year include music from a DJ as well as free beverages and hot dogs and hamburgers – courtesy of the North Plainfield PBA as well as Angel’s Italian Ices. There will be free and fun activities for children, including a clown, a balloon artist and face painter from Mad Hatters, Inc., and cartoonist Will Torres.

“National Night Out is a fun and informational event for the entire family that and provides us a way to give back to the community,” said Detective Albert ‘Tito’ Domizi, who runs the department’s  community policing units along with the school district’s DARE and GREAT programs. “This event offers a great environment for residents to approach us, talk to us and get to know us.”
