The Summit Foundation has selected two Summit High School (SHS) seniors for its first Elevating Summit Students (ESS) scholarship. ESS provides four years of renewable funding to narrow the gap between tuition fees and financial aid.

Aira Poticano and April Sanchez each will receive a total of $23,000 over four years in college. This fall, Aira will attend Drew University in Madison, NJ, and April will attend Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA.

ESS scholarships honor students with a 3.2+ GPA, strength of character, involvement in school activities, and a commitment to four years of college or university. Students apply through the SHS scholarship program.

“By providing more than $5,000 of aid for each of a student’s four years in college, the ESS scholarships are designed to bring a four-year degree within reach for talented students with financial need,” said Julie Keenan, president of The Summit Foundation.

ESS scholarship recipients were notified of their selection prior to national college decision day, which is May 1st, so that they can incorporate the award amounts into their college decision process.

The Summit Foundation fosters philanthropy by identifying local needs and offering donors flexible ways to make a difference in the lives of their neighbors. Since 2010, it has awarded nearly $6.6 million through competitive grants to tax-exempt organizations that serve our area. Through the 15 scholarships it manages, The Summit Foundation will award close to $100,000 to 42 students this year.
