PJ’s, teddy bears, and books recently brought big smiles to the faces of kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders at Valley Road Elementary School. The theme of the evening was “Elect to Read.” This year’s theme coincides with the presidential election encouraging students to choose to read. The children’s excitement and interest escalated as the teachers read a variety of stories to the eager listeners. The evening was topped off with delicious snacks and lots of laughter. It was a night full of fun, friends, and literatureValley Road Principal Joseph Beltramba stated, “During this campaign season, we are encouraging our students to ‘Elect to Read’. So many students, “elected” to come and listen to stories at VRS Story Time. Mrs. Peitz led the committee of teachers and parents who set up this wonderful evening of reading to students in several smaller groupings. We would also like to thank the PTA for their generous donation of snacks.”
Story Time at Valley Road Elementary School was a night that will remain in the minds and hearts of all the children who attended. Events like this and many others are part of the school’s annual reading incentive program run by Trish Peitz, Valley Road teacher. The program also asks that students in all grades keep a reading log. At the end of the month, each student who has met the monthly goal receives an incentive as a reward.
