Since Downton Abbey aired its final episode in 2016, true fans have missed peeking into the lives of the Crawley family’s household. Miss no more and join other Downton fans for a themed dinner at 7pm on Friday, February 24 (snow date 2/26). Held at Mountainside’s historic Deacon Andrew Hetfield House, the event is a fund raiser for the Mountainside Restoration Committee with a portion of the proceeds going to the restoration and maintenance of the historic Hetfield and Levi Cory houses.
The evening will begin with a reception held in the Hetfield House’s formal parlor where guests will enjoy Edwardian era appetizers and Pimms punch. After the reception, diners will proceed to the center rooms for a sit-down dinner featuring soup, vegetables and choice of a beef or seafood entrée. Lemonade, ale and/or wine will be served with dinner. After dinner, diners will enjoy typical desserts of the time and participate in a Downton Abbey trivia contest and lively discussions about the Abbey. Throughout the meal, costumed servers will assist guests at spectacularly-set tables accompanied by period music. Guests are encouraged to dress in Edwardian Downton Abbey era costume or dress for dinner.
Presented by the volunteers of the Mountainside Historic Committee, seating for this Downton Abbey Dinner is extremely limited and any interested adults should call for reservations immediately. The cost is $75 per person. Full payments are due within one week of reservation. The Deacon Andrew Hetfield House and Levi Cory House are located at Constitution Plaza adjacent to the Mountainside Library. Constitution Plaza is the first right off Birch Hill Road which is off New Providence Road near the Mountainside Volunteer Fire House. The Mountainside Restoration Committee is a committee of volunteers governed by the Borough of Mountainside whose purpose is to restore and maintain the Deacon Andrew Hetfield House and the Levi Cory House and collect and save historic information and items from destruction.
