The Mountainside Public Library has scheduled the following programs for December. The Library will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, December 24-25 in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas and on Monday and Tuesday, December 31 and January 1, in observance of New Year’s Eve and Day.
“Holiday Boutique”
Saturday, December 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Need a holiday gift or decoration? The Friends of the Mountainside Library will be sponsoring a sale where great items can be found for the holiday season at reasonable prices. All proceeds will benefit the library.
Tuesday Night Movies
On December 4
Ocean’s 8 (2018) will be shown. Upon her release from prison, Debbie, the sister of legendary conman Danny Ocean, puts together a team of unstoppable crooks to pull off the heist of the century (PG-13).
Woman Walks Ahead (2018)
will be shown on December 11.
A widowed New York artist travels to North Dakota to paint a portrait of Chief Sitting Bull and is met with open hostility by the US Army (PG-13).
Our final movie of the month on December 18 will be Mama Mia!
Here We Go Again (2018). Five years after the events of Mamma Mia! (2008), Sophie prepares for the grand reopening of the Hotel Bella Donna as she learns more about her mother’s past. Stars Lily James, Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep (PG-13). There will be no movie shown on December 25.
Showtime for each movie is 6:30 p.m.
Brown Bag Academy, Mondays (except December 24 & 31)

Experience the joy of learning at lunchtime without the homework or exams! We will be featuring lectures by Professor Robert Greenberg on “The Symphony”. This course ends on December 3 and a new course will be selected by the participants. Bring your lunch; coffee, tea and cookies will be served for dessert!
“Come Read to Kalee (Therapy Dog)”
Friday, December 7 at 3:45 p.m.
Stop in and read to Kalee for 5-10 minutes. Please bring two favorite books with you to read when you come. This program is especially designed for emergent and beginning readers in Grades K-1, but all readers are welcomed. Please call to reserve a spot for this program.
“Holiday Card Workshop”
Saturday, December 8 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
This workshop continues to be a tradition at the Library! There will be cards for all ages to make: from the youngest child to adults. Register so that we have enough supplies and then drop in to create one-of a kind cards for your family and friends. Children under 6 must be accompanied by a parent.
Opera on Film Series
Friday, December 14 at 1:00 p.m.
Friday Operas on Film series presented by Mena Clemson, will be showing Eine Nacht in Venedig (Night In Venice) by Johann Strauss. Anton De Ridder (Herzog) and Sylvia Geszty (Annina) star in this 1973 recording filmed in Germany. The Munich Radio Orchestra is conducted by Kurt Eichorn.
“Guided Meditation for Inner Peace”
Thursday, December 13 at 7:00 p.m.
Sally Younghans will be at the library for her monthly yoga series. Join us each month as we explore and experience evidence based meditation techniques for inner peace, overall well-being and stress reduction. A different technique will be explored each month.
