With the help of area businesses, David Brearley High School graduates celebrated graduation in a safe, alcohol- and drug-free environment, through the district’s annual Project Graduation, held June 22, 2017 at Coastal Sports in Fairfield, NJ.
The celebration attracted over 60 students from the graduating class of 2017.
The students were able to partake in the graduation ceremony before meeting at the school to board a bus and travel to the site, where the PTO parents had arranged various activities for them. The program ran from 10 pm until 2:30 am the following morning. The students were then transported back to the school.
“It is good, safe fun for our students,” stated Jean Laurie, Project Graduation chairperson. “This is my second year being involved with the program, and both years I would say were an absolute success,” Laurie added.
In addition to food, the students were given various activities to play while they were at the venue. There was also a photo booth with props for the recent graduates.
Without a doubt, the hands-down favorite was the hypnotist who ended the evening by mesmerizing 10 of the students.
“I’d never seen anything like this before,” said valedictorian Rebecca Pantano. “It was great to see my classmates participate in this.”
Residents are asked to patronize the businesses who donated money to sponsor the Project Graduation Program.
“Every year, local businesses are asked to help and to contribute to this worthwhile program. These businesses continually step up to the plate,” Laurie said.
