Events for Adults
Movie Night–Wednesday, June 5, at 7pm
Movies are back! Join us the first Wednesday of the month for a screening of a recently released DVD! Please visit our website or contact the library for film titles.
Literary Cafe–Saturday, June 8, at 10:15am
Literary Café is a book chat program. The format is simple: Bring a few of your recent favorite books and tell the other members of the group what you like about them. If you don’t have a copy of the book you want to talk about, that’s okay, too. The books can be new or old, fiction or nonfiction, classic or contemporary. There is no required reading, and you will have the opportunity to learn about books recommended by other group members. Attend as many sessions as you’d like. Admission is free and all are welcome. Refreshments sponsored by the Friends of the Cranford Public Library. Patrons are welcome to join us in person or online.
International Film–Monday, June 10, at 2pm and 7pm
International films are back! Join us for an International film screening. The same film will be shown at 2pm and 7pm. Please contact the library for the film title.

Join us for another fun evening of trivia! This free event is hosted by the Friends of the Cranford Public Library! Join us in the Community Room on the first floor of the Community Center! Darkroom Drop-in–Wednesdays from 5:30pm-8:30pm
Photographers of all levels are invited to connect, share their work, talk shop, and work in the darkroom. The Darkroom is located in the Arts & Crafts Room on the second floor of the Community Center, the space is wheelchair-accessible. Made possible by funds from the Union County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
Events for Children
Learn all about birds of prey when The Raptor Trust join us on Tuesday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m. This 30-minute educational presentation is appropriate for ages 4-5. Space is limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. Video recording and flash photography are not permitted. This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Children in grades K-5 are invited to join us for “Once Upon a Time,” a program where we explore fairytales/folktales from different parts of the world! This month’s stories are all from Germany. We’ll start by reading books and discussing their authors and the parts of the world they’re from. Next, we’ll do art projects and STEM activities related to the books we read. Throw on your favorite pajamas and head to the library for Pajama Storytime on Thursday, June 13 at 6:00 p.m. This drop-in program is for children in grades K-3.
Join us for our annual “Chalk the Walk for Pride” party! This year’s celebration is extra special because we’ll be joined by New York Times bestselling author Robb Pearlman! He’ll be sharing his book, The Sublime Ms. Stacks, at 11:30 a.m. Stop in anytime from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to decorate the library’s walkway using chalk, make a variety of crafts, and celebrate with us! Our friends at the Cranford Unity Project will be joining us to run a craft station. All are welcome at this all-ages program, no registration required.
Young readers are invited to hone their skills by reading to certified therapy dogs at our monthly “Paws for Reading” program on Tuesday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. Dogs are a perfect, non-judgmental audience for children learning to read independently! No registration is required, but space is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.
Children in Kindergarten and older are invited to join us for a pirate-themed storytime on Thursday, June 20 at 2:00 p.m. No registration is required.
Join us for “Ms. Erin’s Magic of Make-Believe” on Friday, June 21 at 10:15 a.m. This class, for children ages 3-6, combines theater games, music, movement, and creative play to build confidence and creativity! This musical class fosters teamwork, connection, active listening, and emotional intelligence. Watch your little one shine! Parents/guardians are expected to attend. This is a free, drop-in program; no registration is required.
Children ages 3+ are invited to learn the basics of karate with Master C of USA Karate and Fitness! This program meets on Monday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m. No registration is required, just drop in.
Join the Cranford Public Library for our first ever Wings of Fire Book Club on Monday, June 24 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. We’ll be talking about The Dragonet Prophecy—participants are welcome to read either the original book or the graphic novel—and creating some crafts inspired by the book. The library is accepting applications for “Darkroom Workshop: Shooting Film and Camera Basics” on Saturday, June 15 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. This hands-on workshop will introduce shooting film on an analog camera. Learn the basics of film cameras and some valuable tips for taking pictures. Participants should bring an analog camera if they have one, library staff will work to arrange loaner cameras for those who require them. This class is aimed at adults, but older teens (ages 16+) are welcome to apply. Depending on demand, we may be unable to accommodate all applicants.
