Volunteers from the Men’s Club of Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains built the synagogue’s Sukkah (booth) on Sunday, October 1, in preparation for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. In keeping with tradition, the volunteers erected the Sukkah on the synagogue’s outdoor patio to replicate the temporary huts that their ancestors dwelled in while wandering in the desert. Throughout the week-long celebration of Sukkot, which began October 4 at sundown, congregants and Religious School students were able to eat in the synagogue’s Sukkah.
