Congratulations to Troop 228’S Latest Batch of Eagle Scouts!

 Arjun Mahal is Troop 228’s 96th Eagle Scout, and he attained this rank at his Eagle Board of Review on January 26th, 2017. Arjun’s Eagle service project was the enhancement and further development of an outdoor classroom at Mt. Horeb Elementary School in Warren.  Arjun’s project was the construction of six flowerbeds, two composting bins and six butterfly houses. Through the addition of these components to their outdoor classroom, the students could take what they learned about the lifecycle of butterflies and obtain first-hand experience with the plants they grow in the flowerbeds, and the composting bins would teach them about simple ways to help the environment.

 

  Parth Patel is Troop 228’s 97th Eagle Scout, and he attained this rank at his Eagle Board of Review on March 15th, 2017. Parth’s Eagle service project was the construction of a wooden trailhead in the parking lot of Stransky Farms, a Warren township green-space where members of the community hike and enjoy nature.  Parth’s trailhead sign was at the head of the trail which links this parcel of land to Dealaman Pond. His trailhead included a map of the area, some background information and history of the farm, and a QR link for those hikers seeking more information. His project also included the laying down of woodchips on about 80’ of trail to make the trail more user-friendly.

 

  Michael Maloney is Troop 228’s 98th Eagle Scout, and he attained this rank at his Eagle Board of Review on March 21st, 2017. Mike’s Eagle service project was the creation of a picnic area at St. Martin’s Church in Martinsville. Mike’s project entailed clearing out an area approximately 36’ x 16’, which was full of vines, brush and debris. The ground was then leveled, a perimeter of landscaping timbers was established, weed barrier placed, and wood chips were laid down. Finally, three long picnic tables were created and placed on top. This project enabled members of the congregation, preschool children and staff members a useful outdoor space to enjoy.

 

 Dillon Monti is Troop 228’s 99th Eagle Scout, and he attained this rank at his Eagle Board of Review on March 29thth, 2017. Dillon’s Eagle service project was the construction and installation of a trailhead kiosk and two benches at Wagner Farm Arboretum in Warren township.  Dillon’s project’s has created a better hiking experience for hikers who are hiking the trails from Glenhurst Meadows, over to the Arboretum, which are currently not well marked. The kiosk sign contains information about the Arboretum’s hours of operation and a map of the trail system, while the benches are a nice place for visitors to rest or wait for other members of their party.

 

  Peter Fogarty is Troop 228’s 100th Eagle Scout, and he attained this rank at his Eagle Board of Review on May 16th, 2017.  Peter’s Eagle service project was the creation of a picnic area at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Warren – our troop’s Chartered Organization for the past 51 years. Peter’s project consisted of the construction of three 10’ long picnic tables, the creation of a 30’ x 18’ level area to place them in, and the building of a new 8’ x 8’ sand box. His project provides a place where parents can more easily watch their children play on the playground, and where vacation bible school and other church events can be held outside in a pleasant environment.

 

  David Alexander is Troop 228’s 101st Eagle Scout, and he attained this rank at his Eagle Board of Review on May 23rd, 2017.  David’s Eagle service project was renovating the old chapel basement at Our Lady of the Mount Church in Warren and thereby improving the working conditions for the volunteers of the Good Samaritan Ministry, which provide an important outreach program for neighboring communities. David’s project consisted of cleaning out the chapel basement, washing the walls and floors, and repainting the walls and floors. Then he constructed three sturdy 6’ x 2’ work stations for the volunteers to sort clothes and donated items on, as well as storage carts to be stored under. His project provided a much safer and streamlined work area for the GSM volunteers.
