The annual Spring Arts Festival, a year-end celebration of the accomplishments in, and dedication to, the arts by students at Watchung Hills Regional High School (WHRHS), will be held Monday, June 5, through Wednesday, June 7, at various exposition and performance spaces at the school.
The community is invited to attend the three-day festival, to witness exhibitions of 2 and 3-dimentional visual art as well as film screenings, theatrical, musical and choral performances involving students of all grades and levels. Admission is free.
Monday, June 5
The festival kicks off at 5:30 p.m., with the visual arts opening.
Works in all mediums including drawings, paintings, photographs, ceramic works, sculptures, crafts, graphic design pieces and creations made from wood will be on display in the Atrium at the main entrance of the school and around the arts wing. These works will remain up for the duration of the festival.
Shakespeare in the Park begins at 6:30 p.m. Students will perform in an outdoor space, excerpts and monologues from a collection Shakespeare’s greatest works, including “The Taming of the Shrew” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
Tuesday, June 6
The Spring Choral Concert will be held in the Performing Arts Center from 7 to 9 .m. This is on a different night of the week than it has been held in the past. Students in the Chorus, Advanced Chorus, and Ensembles will be performing works by Green Day, Bruno Mars, Ray Charles, and Billy Joel, as well as songs from Broadway’s “Hairspray,” the film, “Pitch Perfect,” and more.
Wednesday, June 7
The South Auditorium will hold multiple short-film screenings starting at 5:30 p.m., and lasting through to 7 p.m.
The Spring Orchestra and Concert Band Concert will be held in the Performing Arts Center from 7 to 9 pm. The Orchestra will be playing a variety of music including Vivaldi’s “4 Seasons with Spring,” and the concert band’s set will include “Salute to American Jazz,” “Variations on America,” and more.
