College Woman’s Club Luncheon to Feature Mayor Brindle

The Honorable Shelley Brindle, Mayor of Westfield, will be the featured speaker at the College Woman’s Club of Westfield’s annual spring luncheon on Wednesday, March 28 at noon, at Echo Lake Country Club, 515 Springfield Avenue, Westfield, New Jersey.
The luncheon is $75 per person and all proceeds benefit the club’s scholarship program for young women from Westfield.
A former HBO senior executive who was recently elected Westfield’s first female mayor, Mayor Brindle, was herself a scholarship student at the University of Virginia. She credits her daughter for encouraging her to run and her mother, a Vietnam War widow, for instilling in her a spirit of resilience and willingness to embrace change.
“Mayor Brindle’s story is inspirational for our multigenerational membership as well as the young women we support through CWC scholarships,” said Jeanne Marie Ryan, CWC President. “We are excited to have the Mayor as a speaker for our annual luncheon as we conclude our centennial year and move into another century of helping young women in Westfield achieve their academic goals!”
Founded in 1917 to further higher education for women, the College Woman’s Club awards over $50,000 in scholarships annually to young women from Westfield on the basis of academics, leadership, and financial need. The annual spring luncheon is the club’s largest fundraiser, with all proceeds from ticket sales and raffle items benefitting scholarships.
