COLLEGE CLUB PROUDLY ANNOUNCES 2016 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Since its inception in 1933, the College Club of Fanwood –Scotch Plains objectives have been to increase the interest of local young women in going to college, and to provide “material aid” by way of scholarships.
This past May, the College Club of Fanwood –Scotch Plains awarded a total of $27,750.00 in scholarships to 10 students, 6 of who are high school seniors who will graduate this June and 4 of whom are currently attending college.
Among the 2016 high school recipients for academic year 2016-2017 are Annemarie Kearns, daughter of Brian and Melissa Kearns who received $3000.00 and will be attending the University of Rochester; Gabriela MacPherson, daughter of Gordon and Martha MacPherson who received $4000.00 and will be attending The College of William and Mary; Rebecca Mehorter, daughter of John and Mary Rose Mehorter who received $1500.00 and will be attending Ithaca College, Seleena Nival, daughter of Joseph and Liza Nival who received $4000.00 and will be attending Rutgers, The State University of NJ and Carolyn Ringel, daughter of Jeffrey and Betsy Ringel who received $1500.00 and will be attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Emily Boyle, daughter Michael and Terry Boyle, the highest ranking female of the class of 2016 at SPFHS received an award of $1,000.00 in recognition of her academic excellence. Ms. Boyle will be attending Lafayette College.
Among the 2016 college recipients for academic year 2016-2017 are Caitlin Caroll, daughter of Joseph and Sandra Caroll, who received $2500.00 and will be a senior at Middlebury College; Elizabeth Gelling, daughter of Christopher and Linda Gelling who received $3000.00 and will be junior at the Fashion Institute of Technology; Elisa Staniec, daughter of George and Lorraine Staniec who received $3250.00 and will be a sophmore at The Pennsylvania State University and Eve Zhurbinskiy, daughter of Ilya and Alla Zhurbinskiy , who received $4,000.00 and will be a junior at the George Washington University.
This is the 80th year that female students, seeking financial assistance to pursue a four year college degree, have been helped by the club’s fundraising efforts. Two of the club’s largest efforts are the annual spring luncheon and the sale of the community calendar.
A special dinner reception was held for the recipients and their families on Monday, May 23rd; Club President, Dorothy Lusk, and Scholarship Committee Co-Chairs, Marie Walford and Tish Isack made the scholarship presentations at the dinner. Dorothy Lusk and Tish Isack will present the awards at the SPFHS annual awards assembly.
