Clark Public Library May 2023

Please register for any programs through the online calendar on our website at clarklibrary.org, in person, by phone at 732-388-5999, or by email at reference@clarklibrary.org and state which program you would like to attend.

The library will be closed on Sundays beginning Sunday, May 7  through Labor Day weekend.  We will be closed Saturday, May 27-Monday, May 29 for Memorial Weekend.

Tales for Tots on Monday, May 1, 8, 15 & 22  at 10:00am

Stories and songs for active listeners.  Geared toward ages 2-3 with a caregiver. Older children are welcome!  30 minutes of open play follows.

Boogie Woogie Babies on Tuesday, May 2 at 10:00am

Boogie Woogie Babies is a 30-45 minute dance class for baby and their big person! Classes consist of singing and dancing geared towards working on fine motor skills. Class ends with a dance routine that includes baby and their big person. Both adults and little people get to socialize, have fun, and most importantly, bond!  Plus adults get to burn a few calories! Class is geared towards ages 6 months-2 years old. but all are welcome with an adult!  Please register.

Librarian By Appointment on Thursdays, May 4 and May 18 from 3:00-4:00pm                                                                                    The Adult Services Librarians at the Clark Public Library are available by appointment to provide in-depth, one-on-one help with any library related questions you may have. 30 minute appointments are available every other Thursday (1st and 3rd Thursday of the month) from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. Open to Clark residents.

Paddington Film Screening & Coronation Celebration on Thursday, May 4 from 6:00pm-8:00pm

Join us for a screening of the movie Paddington, in connection with the upcoming coronation of King Charles III. Arts, crafts, and snacks will be available. There will be British tea, scones, and Paddington’s favorite, orange marmalade! Takeaway recipes and origami will be available, on a first-come first-served basis. 

Stories and More on Friday, May 5, 12, 19 & 26 at 10am 

Join us for stories, songs, and rhymes followed by a simple craft. This program is designed for children ages 3 and up. Registration is required. 

Union County Aging Services Kiosk on Monday, May 8 from 10am-12 pm

Do you have questions about services available in Union County for seniors or their caregivers? Come visit the Union County Aging Services Kiosk, speak to our specialist and get answers to your questions.

Teen Gaming Club on Monday, May 8 at 3:00pm – 4:30pm

Drop by the library any time between 3:00pm-4:30pm for a fun afternoon of gaming. Play some Nintendo Switch games on our big screen or bring your own device. Snacks will be served! Open to Grades 6-12.

[Adult & Teen Craft] Lavender Flower Acrylic Painting Class on Monday, May 8 at 7:00pm

Learn how to paint lavender flowers using basic acrylic paints and cotton swabs! Clark library card holders will receive priority registration. Out of town patrons will be placed on a waiting list and will be notified if there is space in the class.

[Hybrid] Baby Bookworms on Tuesdays, May 9, 16, 23, & 30 at 10:00 am

Babies and toddlers are invited to listen to some books, and learn some songs, rhymes, lap bounces, and fingerplays.  30 minutes of open play follows. Registration is requested. Virtual option is available.

Barks & Books on Tuesdays, May 9 & May 23 from 4-5 pm

If you have a young, reluctant or struggling reader, we want you to meet our therapy dogs!  They are non-judgmental listeners and furry friends to read to that won’t laugh if your child makes a mistake or stumbles over a word. Children learn to associate reading with being with the dog, and begin to view reading in a positive way. Over time, the child’s reading ability and confidence can improve because they are practicing their skills. Children will each get approximately 15 minutes of reading time with Bubble, Magnolia, or Sophie.

Krafty Kids,Thursday, May 11 at  3:30pm

Join us as we make some fun and creative  artwork for Mother’s  Day. Don’t forget to bring your imagination and creativity! Registration is required. Geared for ages 5-12.

Friends of the Library Mother’s Day Flower Sale on Saturday, May 13 from 10:00 am- 3:00 pm

Join the friends in their first ever annual Mother’s Day Flower sale!  The flower sale will be held outside.  If rain, it will be moved indoors.

Friends of the Library Precious Gem and Metals Buying Event on Saturday, May 13 from 10:00am- 4:00 pm

Come to the Friend’s spring fundraiser on the main floor of the library and purchase gold, silver, etc!

National Police Week begins May 14.  Check our calendar for a special Meet a Police Officer storytime to celebrate our men and women in blue!

Brown Bag Lunch Packing Event on Monday, May 15 from 3:30pm-4:45pm

Join us for this family-friendly activity. We will be packing sustainable lunches for Bridges Outreach, a local service organization that helps end homelessness. Participants will decorate the brown bags with drawings and inspirational words and pack them with sustainable lunch items. Open to all ages.

Evening Book Club on Monday, May 15 at 7:00pm

Join us for our next evening book club meeting. We’ll be discussing “The Lost Girls of Willowbrook” by Ellen Marie Wiseman. Please speak with a librarian or emailreference@clarklibrary.org if you need a copy of the book.

Tinker Tots on Wednesday, May 17 at 10:00 am

Come join us for a morning of fun STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities perfect for little ones.  Play is station based. For children ages 1 through pre-k. Please register.

[Teen Program] Mugs Cakes on Wednesday, May 17 at 3:00pm

Learn to make delicious cakes, in a mug! Mugs will be provided by the library, but you are welcome to bring your own. Open to Grades 6-12.

Evening Storytime on Thursday, May 18 at 6:30 pm

Join us in the evening for a special storytime! Interactive stories, songs, and a craft for children of all ages! Registration is required.

Infant CPR Class on Monday, May 22 at 11:00am

Join us for this valuable Infant CPR class that benefits new moms or those caring for infants up to 12 months of age. The class will cover cardiac arrest, choking and AED use.

Little Scientists on Thursday, May 25 at 3:30pm

Learn how to build and create with our Science Experiments! Each session will be a different experiment that will touch upon a different STEM skill. For grades K-5.

Lego Club on Friday, May 26 at 3:15pm

Create your own LEGO®  structures to be displayed in the Children’s area of the library! LEGO® are provided by the library. For children entering grades K – 5.

Adults  – Take & Makes for Preschoolers 

Each month we have a new take-home craft to pick up and make at your leisure. While supplies last, no holds or registration.
