Don’t forget to get the last of your summer reading done! Logging reading for the summer reading challenge ends on August 31. Children’s raffle tickets must be submitted by September 2 and prize winners will be drawn on September 3!
The library will be closed on the following days for Labor Day weekend:
Saturday, August 31; Sunday, September 1 and Monday, September 2
Sunday library hours which are 1pm to 5pm, will resume on Sunday, September 9

Science Heroes: “Adventure of the Lost Treasure” on Thursday, August 1 at 4pm
Join us on a treasure-hunting adventure deep within the jungle! The audience helps the performer act out the tale, as we use the events in the story to explore several exciting science concepts: Air pressure, Energy transfer, Physical vs. chemical changes, and more!
Volunteers help conduct each experiment and the whole audience gets involved in changing variables, making predictions, and comparing results! We’ll even bring some experiments out into the crowd for all to see.
Stories and More on Fridays, August 2 & 9 at 10am
Join us for stories, songs, and rhymes followed by a simple craft. This program is designed for children ages 3 and up. Registration is required.
Friday Family Flicks on Fridays, August 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 at 2pm
Beat the heat Friday afternoons while watching a family friendly movie and munching on popcorn! All movies will feature the Summer Reading theme of Adventure Begins at the Library by being set in a different continent or having an adventure!
Tales for Tots on Monday, August 5 at 9:45am OR at 10:30am
Stories and songs for active listeners. Geared toward ages 2-3 with a caregiver.
Older children are welcome! 30 minutes of open play follows. Please register.
Baby Bookworms on Tuesday, August 6 at 10am
Babies and toddlers are invited to listen to some books, and learn some songs, rhymes, lap bounces, and fingerplays. 30 minutes of open play follows.
Patches and Stitches on Tuesdays, August 6, 13, 20 & 27 from 12pm – 2pm
Bring your quilt or other crafty project and visit with the members of the quilting club.
Adventures in Food Around the World for Kids on Tuesday, August 6 at 3pm
Join us in making some fun treats to eat focusing on different areas of the world! At this session we will be making Brigadeiro, a great Brazilian dessert similar to bonbons!
Please be aware of any food allergies that may be present. Food labels will be available at the event.
Totally New Tuesdays on Tuesdays, August 6, 13, 20 & 27 at 6:30pm

Adventures in Crafting Around the World for Kids on Wednesday, August 7 at 3pm
Adventure begins at the library this summer! Join us for a weekly craft program for elementary aged children with a featured craft from regions of the world! This week we will visit South America and do some yarn weaving.
The Amazing Race – Library Edition on Thursday, August 8 from 4pm to 7pm
Drop in between 4 pm and 7 pm and take an amazing race around the world, right here in the library to celebrate our summer reading challenge-Adventure Begins at your Library! Stations representing different areas of the world will be set up around the library! Complete challenges and activities individually or as a team to work your way around the world!
Needlework Club on Saturday, August 10 from 10am to 2pm
Are you interested in sharing your needlework craft or learning a new one? Needlework includes counted cross stitch, needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, etc. Come when you can and stay as long as you like. Bring what you are working on to sit, stitch, and chat with others who enjoy needlework! The club will meet one Saturday per month. If you have any questions, please drop by the meeting and someone will assist you.
Open Play For Little Ones:
Mondays, August 12, 19, & 26, Tuesdays, August 13, 20 & 27, and Fridays, August 16 & 30 from 10am-11am
There’s no story time today, but please feel free to drop in for open play with the library’s toys!
Outsmart the Scammers on Wednesday, August 14 at 11am
Join us for this informative seminar on various financial scams and what you can do to protect yourself. Topics will include imposter scams, collection fraud scams, grandparents scams, lottery/sweepstakes scams, and romance/long-distance relationship scams. Presented by Edward Jones.
Lego Master Builders on Thursday, August 15 at 3:30pm
Create your own LEGO® structures to be displayed in the Children’s area of the library! LEGO® are provided by the library. For children entering grades K – 5.

Kumpf Middle School Summer Reading Book Discussion on Thursday, August 15 at 2pm
Join us to discuss the required summer reading title “Eleven” by Tom Rogers. Share your thoughts and questions about the book and learn what your classmates think as well.
Finger Painting on Friday, August 23 at 10:30am
No childhood is complete without some good, old-fashioned, messy finger painting.
We will read a story and then make some squishy, colorful creations.
Wear some old clothes!
Evening Book Club on Monday, August 26 at 7pm
Join us for our next evening book club meeting. We will be discussing “Malibu Rising” by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Please speak with a librarian or email reference@clarklibrary.org if you need a copy of the book.
