Miracles for Myeloma 5K
Submitted by Ron and Sheree Pask
We have been making Miracles happen for ten years! The 10th annual Miracles for Myeloma 5K Run/Walk in Clark will be held on Saturday, October 15. This year it will be a hybrid version, in person as well as virtual.
One of the organizers explains what keeps hundreds of participants coming back to help raise money for a little-known disease. “It’s her strength and fortitude that inspire so many of us,” Ron Pask said of his wife Sheree Pask who is in remission of multiple myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer.
The husband and wife duo from Clark with friend Gina Klemm of Westfield have been the originators and driving force behind this event. Gina Klemm’s brother, Frank Guardino, succumbed to myeloma 11 years ago.
The race begins at 9:30 a.m. at Oak Ridge Park in Clark with check-in beginning at 8:30 a.m. The race is held at the park and has wheelchair-friendly tree-lined paths. Post-race refreshments, giveaways, and acknowledgments will follow.
In the last nine years, the event has raised over $700,000 for the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF), in pursuit of a cure for the disease.
“There are a number of ways to get involved,” says Sheree Pask, “even if you aren’t able to participate through walking or running.”
A balloon-lined Remembrance Path features signs that can be purchased for $25 each, “In Honor” or “In Memory” of someone. Businesses may purchase “Miracles Markers” placed at the Start and Finish Lines where their logos will be displayed prominently along with on the website. Additionally, donations of any amount may be given online through the website.
As in years past, the Arthur L. Johnson High School Key Club, under the adviser Meghan Bradley, will be guiding activities and assisting with the setup of the event.
