Clark Public Library Announces May Events

Clark Library May 2021 Events

The library will be closed Memorial Day Weekend, May 29-31.

Hours are Wednesday and Friday 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.; and Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Hours are subject to change, so please check our website or call before coming. The capacity will be reduced and we will be practicing social distancing. Masks will be required when in the building. Our librarians are here to help with reference questions or book recommendations! 

All items must be returned in the book drop and will be in quarantine for 7-10 days. The items stay on your card during this time. You will not be charged overdues for the time the items are quarantining. Please do not renew overdue items you know you returned while they are quarantining.

Events will be held virtually via Zoom. Please register for any programs by emailing reference@clarklibrary.org and state which program you would like to attend and you will be sent a link to the meeting. You may also register through the online calendar on our website at clarklibrary.org.

Boredom Buster for Kids

Each month we have a new take home craft for kids to pick up and make at their leisure. While supplies last, no registration. Available beginning May 1.

Teen Take-Out Craft

Reserve a Hanging Paper Flower Craft Kit starting Monday, May 3. The kit will include supplies and instructions. Priority registration for teens with library cards (any library in Union County). Please email reference@clarklibrary.org or call 732-388-5999 to reserve a kit. Open to teens in Grades 6-12 while supplies last.

[Adult DIY Craft] Paint by Stickers: Masterpieces

registration begins April 6 for May 5 pickup

The May Adult DIY Craft is sticker painting. We will be using the book, “Paint by Sticker: Masterpieces” which includes stickers and templates for 12 artworks such as The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli and Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. The take-out craft will include simple instructions so you can do it at home without a group Zoom class. Please reserve through our online calendar. Registered patrons will receive a random choice among the 12 artworks. *A library card is required to register for this program (any library in Union County) and Clark card holders will have priority.

[Virtual] Read to Sophie by Appointment

Sophie the therapy dog is available to listen to your child practice reading via Zoom! She has very flexible availability. Please email ReadToSophie@gmail.com to make an appointment.

[Virtual] Baby Bookworms

Tuesdays, May 4, 11, 18, and 25 at 10:00 a.m.

Baby Bookworms is virtual via Zoom! Babies and toddlers are invited to hear some books, and learn some songs, rhymes, lap bounces, and fingerplays! Please register to get the Zoom link to attend.

[Virtual] May the Fourth Be with You! Star Wars Event for Kids

Tuesday, May 4 at 4:00 p.m.

Children can celebrate May the Fourth with us virtually by playing Star Wars trivia, Star Wars Bingo, and making a Yoda light up craft! *A library card is required to register for this program (any library in Union County) and Clark card holders will have priority.

[Virtual] Cinco de Mayo Story & Craft for Kids

Wednesday, May 5 at 4:00 p.m.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo virtually by listening to a story and making Mexican Papel Picado to decorate your space! Papel Picado involves cutting, so this program is intended for children who can use scissors for the crafting portion. Any age may listen to the story! [Virtual] Protect Yourself from Consumer Fraud

Thursday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m.

Join us for this virtual program presented by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. Learn about current consumer fraud scams and how to stay alert and safe during these trying times. The presentation will cover IRS scams, phone scams, lottery scams, grandparent scams, email scams, telemarketing scams, identity theft, phishing, and more. 

[Virtual] 8 Minute Lego Challenges

Thursday, May 6 at 4:00 p.m.

Express your creativity with our Timed Lego Building Challenge. Kids will get a prompt, such as a “piece of furniture” and then have 8 minutes to build it with Lego. There will be an hour filled with different prompts! If you do not have your own Lego, please contact the Children’s Department of the library.

Fridays, May 7, 14, and 21 at 10:00 a.m.

Stories, rhymes, songs, and simple craft on Zoom. Please register to be provided most craft materials and the Zoom link.

[Virtual] Adult Coloring Club

Fridays May 7, 14, and 21 at 11:00 a.m.

Coloring is a great way to unwind and relieve some stress! Pick up coloring sheets and crayons at the library and meet up on Zoom for some soothing music and relaxation. Once you register, you’ll be emailed when your supplies are ready to be picked up at the library.

Tuesday, May 11 at 1:00 p.m.

Join us for our next virtual book club meeting. We will be discussing “Carnegie’s Maid” by Marie Benedict. Please speak with a librarian if you need a copy of the book.

Pick Up & Zoom

Tuesdays, May 11 and 25 at 4:00 p.m.

Every other week we will have a new craft project for elementary aged children. You may pick up the materials for the craft starting the Wednesday before and then join us via Zoom to make it together! Please register to be contacted for the supply list and for the Zoom login information. *Priority registration for Clark residents. Non-residents may be placed on the waitlist until 6 days before the program to determine if there is space.

[Adult Virtual] Mod Podge Terra Cotta Pots

Wednesday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m.

Join us for a Pick Up and Zoom craft class for adults. We will be making Mod Podge terra cotta pots with flower patterns. This will make a pretty spring decoration for your home. Materials are provided. After registering, you will be emailed when your materials are ready for pickup and you will be sent the Zoom link to make it together. [Adult Virtual] Paper Roses

Wednesday, May 19 at 11:00 a.m.

Join us for a Pick Up and Zoom craft class for adults. We will be making paper roses with various colors. You may decorate a small pot or vase with these roses. Paper is provided. Please supply your own glue gun. After registering, you will be emailed when your materials are ready for pickup and you will be sent the Zoom link to make it together. [Virtual] Family Game Night

Thursday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Join us for virtual family game night on Zoom! Each month we will play a different game geared toward elementary ages and older. This month we will play kid-friendly trivia! The faster you answer, the more points you earn! Winners will be divided into age groups/teams, so the whole family may participate! If you have only one device, play as a team. If you have more than one device, play individually! For MURAL cardholders and Union County residents only. Prizes will not be mailed.

[Virtual] Who Was… Book Club for Kids

Wednesday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m.

Kids in 2nd-6th grade are invited to join us via Zoom for our Who Was…book club! Each month we will read a book from this fun series focusing on a particular type of person, such as inventor, athlete, musician, etc. and then come together to discuss and share what we have learned and do a related activity. Please read one of the What Was or What Is books this month about an event or thing.

Teen Take & Make: DIY Yarn Wrapped Tin Can Containers

Monday, May 24 at 4:00 p.m.

Learn how to make cute yarn wrapped tin can containers. They can be used as a pencil holder or as a storage holder for anything you like. Once you register, you’ll be emailed when your supplies are ready to be picked up at the library. Join us for an optional online get-together as we make the containers together over Zoom. Priority registration for teens with library cards (any library in Union County). Open to teens in Grades 6-12.

[Adult Virtual] Cherry Blossom Painting

Wednesday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m.

Join us for an adult painting class via Zoom. We will be painting cherry blossoms on acrylic paper. After registering, you will be emailed when your materials are ready for pickup and you will be sent the Zoom link to make it together. Please supply your own paint brushes. Register through our online calendar or email reference@clarklibrary.org. *A library card is required to register for this program (any library in Union County) and Clark card holders will have priority.

The library is open by appointment at this time for Clark Residents. Call 732-388-5999 and follow the menu options to make an appointment for up to 30 minutes. Patrons will be able to browse and check the computers. Curbside pickup and mobile printing will be available for all card holders at this time without appointment. During the demolition of the police department the library will be closed. During the repaving of the lot, we encourage you to use curbside pickup as parking will be extremely limited.
