A Tribute to James Taylor and The Beatles
Singer/songwriter, Chip Mergott, will be featured at the Watchung Arts Center Saturday, May 8 at 8 p.m. This spectacular concert promises to reveal the lesser-known aspects of the professional relationship between James Taylor and the Beatles. Join Chip Mergott for a fascinating trip down memory lane. Due to the Pandemic this Concert will be streamed LIVE from the Watchung Arts Center to the comfort and safety of your home via Zoom.
Chip Mergott, a graduate of Watchung Hills Regional High School, grew up behind Best Lake (next door to the Watchung Arts Center) in the 1970s. He was a member of the regional phenomenon “Bittersweet” (later RCA Nashville’s “Baillie and the Boys”) before signing as a solo artist to London Records. The resulting album “Bridges”, currently available on iTunes, was produced by studio guitar legend David Spinozza, who recorded with James Taylor. Chip has long been a protégé of Bonnie Raitt who’s called him “One of my favorite songwriters.”
Mr. Mergott is a resident of Bucks County, PA, and continues to write, record and perform from that home base, and teach music locally. His new book of fictional short stories (described by Livingston Taylor as “A wonderful book…I recommend this piece of writing highly”) is called “There Must Be a Better World Somewhere.” Many of the stories are musically inspired, and several of them take place in Watchung.
Tickets are $20. The box office will close on Saturday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. The Zoom link will be sent via email to the ticket holders by 7 p.m. on the day of the event. Buying tickets in advance is strongly recommended and can be purchased securely through Eventbrite (watchungartscenter.eventbrite.com).
