Central School Diaper Drive
Submitted by Shannon Regan
In mid-February, the Central School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) held a week-long virtual diaper drive to benefit a local foundation called Moms Helping Moms. The mission of this organization is to keep babies safe, healthy, and happy.
The drive was held during the week of Valentine’s Day. The Central School PTO upped the ante by creating a fun, school-wide challenge to help increase participation. The theme of the competition was, “Show Some Love to Babies and Moms in Need This Valentine’s Day.” Students earned points for their grade level by wearing an outfit with hearts or with the color red and with every donation of a package of diapers or wipes.
For ease, Central School families were provided with a link (https://yougivegoods.com/) to purchase and ship diapers and wipes directly to the Moms Helping Moms Foundation.
According to Jen McCarey, the Central School PTO Social Action Chair, the school community donated an astounding 351 packages of diapers which is a total of 10,824 diapers, along with 96 packages of baby wipes. The diapers and wipes will be provided to low-income families in New Jersey who have a need for essential baby items.
In the end, the kindergarten students earned the most points, with grade four coming in 2nd place. The Central School community should be proud of the positive impact they are having on their fellow NJ residents who are in need of support.
