On September 28, McKinley students, teachers and parent volunteers readied 14 “Buckets of Love for Texas” filled with cleaning supplies earmarked for Houston to aid in the hurricane recovery efforts. Along with the filled buckets, children wrote messages of love and support for the people who are trying to clean up after the flood from Hurricane Harvey. All of the items were shipped to Texas by truck through a program organized by a local mission in Point Pleasant, New Jersey.
“The entire school got involved, raised $545 and bought enough cleaning supplies for 14 buckets to be sent to victims in Houston of Hurricane Harvey,” explained fifth grade teacher Joseph Paradise.
McKinley has adopted the “We Can” initiative for the 2017-2018 school year, with the Buckets of Love project launching this school-wide humanitarian program.
