Board of Ed Recognizes Winter Athletes

On Thursday, March 30, the Scotch Plains- Fanwood Board of Education celebrated the accomplishments of student athletes for the memorable season of winter sports. Sam Wustefeld was recognized for emerging as the #2 top wrestler in the State of New Jersey. Izu Mozie was recognized for winning the North II Group 3 Sectional Championship for his shot put throw of over 50 feet.
The Varsity Bowling Team had a phenomenal season with 13 wins and 4 losses completing their season as the North II Group 3 Finalists, the Union County Conference Watchung Division Champions, and the Union County Champions.
The 33 members of Girls Varsity Swim Team ended their season as the North II Group B State Sectional Finalists followed by the 25 members of the Boys Varsity Swim Team winning their third consecutive Sectional Title in the North II Group B Sectional Championship meet.
Some of our swimmers competed at the Meet of Champions where they brought home gold, silver and bronze medals. Rachel Maizes qualified for the 100 Breaststroke and she earned a Silver Medal, placing her 2nd in the State of New Jersey.
The Girls Medley Relay Team comprised of senior Stephanie Judge, junior Rachel Maizes, junior Danielle (DeeDee) Maizes and junior Erika Frazier qualified for and defended their prior championship by earning the Gold Medal, placing them 1st in the State of New Jersey.
Sophomore Josh Cohen qualified for the 500 Freestyle and earned the Bronze Medal, placing him 3rd in the State of New Jersey.
Senior and United States Naval Academy committed recruit, Chris Bondarowicz, qualified for the 100 Breaststroke and completed his high school swimming career by earning the Gold Medal, placing him 1st in New Jersey.
