BHPS Students Enjoy the Solar Eclipse
Berkeley Heights Public Schools
Students across Berkeley Heights Public Schools enjoyed being a part of the historical solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. While in NJ we did not get totality, a partial eclipse was visible and was extraordinary. Our friends at the Berkeley Heights Education Foundation generously donated eclipse glasses to schools across the district in response to a grant request submitted by HEIGHTS/QUEST K-5 STEAM Teacher Thomas Clayton to ensure students could enjoy the eclipse safely.
Mr. Clayton shared, “The near totality viewing of a solar eclipse is an extraordinary opportunity for our students to witness a unique scientific event. I knew that students throughout the district would learn about the eclipse in their classes, but I wanted to ensure that they could safely participate in this historical moment by viewing it, as well. Thanks to the generosity of the BHEF, we were able to make that happen.”
Daniela McDonnell, President of the BHEF, added, “Our goal at the BHEF is to support the wishes of staff throughout the district in enhancing educational opportunities. Mr. Clayton’s request was a perfect fit for our goals as an organization and allowed many of the students in BHPS to safely enjoy the eclipse.”
The BHEF is a nonprofit organization that raises funds to enhance educational excellence in the Berkeley Heights Public Schools by sponsoring programs that support innovative instruction, strengthen school-community ties, enrich students’ appreciation for the arts and humanities, and augment technology resources throughout the district.
