The Cranford Public Library’s recently obtained a copy of Better Than We Believed 2 by Rev. Robert J. Cormier, who was born and raised in Cranford. Fr. Bob, as he was called by his many friends and parishioners, served as a minister in Newark and Jersey City, a prison chaplain, a rehabilitation counselor, and President of the Board of Project Live, Inc., an Essex County nonprofit which provides mental health services in Essex County, NJ. After his death in 2014 on Mount Hood, OR, he was honored by the City of Newark with a street named after him. Better Than We Believed 2, a 2018 follow-up to an earlier volume by Fr. Bob, is a reflection on faith and religion through the eyes of multiple characters. The book will be added to the library’ circulating collection.
