On Thursday, December 1, Mountainside’s Beechwood School first graders attended a special reptile and amphibian presentation. Beechwood parent Mrs. Cathy Eser, a zookeeper at the Staten Island Zoo, visited the first graders and brought along some “friends” — a turtle, a frog, a bearded dragon and a corn snake. Mrs. Eser taught the children about each animal and the children had the opportunity to ask and answer questions. They even got to touch the snake! This presentation was part of the nonfiction reading and writing unit the children worked on in their classrooms.
