North Plainfield, NJ — Dr. Michelle Aquino, Superintendent of the North Plainfield Schools, has been named the 2024 Somerset County Superintendent of the Year. The Somerset County Association of School Administrators (SCASA) honored Dr. Aquino during the North Plainfield School District’s Board of Education meeting on October 18, where she was presented with a plaque symbolizing the deep respect and admiration her peers hold for her.

Aquino has served as the Superintendent of the North Plainfield School District since 2018. Before taking on this role, she held the position of Assistant Superintendent within the district from 2015, and in 2017, she concurrently served as both Assistant Superintendent and Acting Superintendent.
As noted by SCASA, “Dr. Aquino is known for promoting excellence in education, student achievement, social-emotional learning, and positive relationships with the community…She exemplifies and embodies the fine characteristics of a strong Superintendent and a community leader.”
Aquino will now be considered for regional and statewide recognition by the New Jersey Association of School Administrators.
