Swing your razor high, Sweeney…on March 22, 23 and 24, 2018, Arthur L. Johnson High School (ALJHS) will proudly present Sweeney Todd, a musical thriller by Stephen Sondheim.
Since its Broadway premiere in 1979, Sweeney Todd has been thrilling and chilling audiences and now the Demon Barber of Fleet Street is coming to ALJ! Sweeney Todd tells the story of a barber who returns to London after a 15-year incarceration to seek revenge on those who wrongfully put him away.
Director Peter Nevargic could not be prouder of these extremely talented young performers as they tackle Stephen Sondheim’s haunting and challenging score, as they play on a gorgeous multi-level set, all while being accompanied by a 25-piece orchestra predominately comprised of ALJ musicians. The cast includes performers of all grade levels and especially ALJ seniors, Anthony Whitman, Emma Knutson, Katlyn Ashley, Gabby Smith, John Gregorio, and Ryan Rutano in their farewell performances.
Nevargic says, “This production of Sweeney Todd is a truly collaborative effort, bringing together ALJ’s Drama, Art and Music departments, including many alumni, who have come back to be a part of this once in a lifetime theatrical event!”
Don’t miss Sweeney Todd, which promises to be, “one of the most exciting musicals ever presented on the ALJ stage.”
