ALJ Kicks Off The Year With Fall Pep Rally

Arthur L. Johnson embraced the Crusader Spirit during a fall pep rally held in September. The event, run by the Student Council, featured all fall coaches and players. In addition to fostering school spirit, the pep rally was designed to encourage students to support their school teams and kick off the year on a strong, peppy note!
Each sports team had their captains speak about the most recent games on the roster and their positive hopes for the year. The teams featured included football, gymnastics, and tennis, among many others. Ms. Lisa Bukowiec, co-advisor of the Student Council, stated, “The captains did an excellent job organizing their teams.”
The ALJ marching band and color guard, directed by the hard-working and extremely dedicated Rachel Bollaro, was featured throughout the event. Matthew Kowalenko, the new school DJ this year, provided music for the cheerleaders and teams.
The cheerleaders, proudly donning their new uniforms, performed two exciting routines: one cheer and several stunts. “As always, the Johnson cheer squad had excellent performances, and their new uniforms looked awesome!” commented Ms. Bukowiec.
Mr. Fosco, ALJ history teacher, was the official Master of Ceremonies for the rally. According to Ms. Marie Palma, Student Council co-advisor, “He has held this position for many years now. He was awesome at introducing each team with his own personal style and enthusiastic flair.”Mr. Delconte, the head football coach, made an appearance at the end of the pep rally to build excitement for the announcement of the football team and the senior captains this season. The football team proceeded to the field to do their famous, “Let’s Go Johnson!” chant and huddle. The remaining student crowd stood in the bleachers cheering.Ms. Palma stated, “Overall, the fall pep rally is by far my favorite rally of the year because there is a charge of electricity amongst the student body. It really helps make everyone excited about a new school year as well as making everyone (students and staff) feel united!”
