A Celebration of Dance
iDance Ministry
On April 8 at Terrill Middle School, dance organizations descended on Scotch Plains to provide one of the most diverse and exciting displays of talent in our community.
Local organizations that were prominently featured in “A Celebration of Dance” include: the Moderne Academie of Fine Arts, iDance Ministry, Elite Performing Arts Center, the Varsity Cheerleaders of SPF High School and the Academy for Performing Arts Center (UCTVS).
This National Dance Week event was created by local resident María Daniel who is a National Dance Foundation Ambassador and Founder of iDance Ministry. In addition to featuring local dance organizations, local students received a number of generous prizes as part of the National Dance Week poster contest.
Prizes included $25 gift cards from Social Justice Matters and gift certificates from Chick-fil-A, T.G.I. Fridays, Scoops Ice Creamery, McDonald’s, Darby Road House Pub, Cinemark, Soul Bowls and more!
The purpose of “A Celebration of Dance” is to showcase local artists, unite the community through dance and promote the various styles of dance. The primary purpose of the National Dance Foundation is to create opportunities that promote kindness, inclusion and community through dance. This specific event is one of the ways the NDF accomplishes its mission and goals in our community.
This year, “A Celebration of Dance” featured various dance styles such as Acro, Ballet, Hip Hop, Irish Step Dance, African, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Capoeira, Liturgical, Cheer Dance and Lyrical.
Poster contest winners include Michelle Larbi, Zia Shah and Nicole Ramanand.
María Daniel has also served the local community through the YMCA Dance Program and now offers classes through Fanwood Recreation (which hosts her local Hip Hop Experience Dance class).
We are looking forward to the 2023 event! For more information about this event, please contact María Daniel at idanceminstry@gmail.com or visit idanceministry.com
