Green Brook Unveils New Fitness Court

New project to be part of the National Fitness Campaign – A nationwide initiative to plan and build Healthy Infrastructure

Township of Green Brook

On July 29, 2021, the Township of Green Brook unveiled its newest quality of life addition at Arthur L. Lewis Park, a sleek and modern outdoor Fitness Court® with a supporting mobile app. This capital project is a featured part of a 2018 initiative launched by National Fitness Campaign (NFC), a nationwide consulting organization that partners with cities and schools to plan, build and fund healthy infrastructure.

Due to the weather, the “Fitness in the Park” event will be postponed until Thursday, August 19 from 4 to 7 p.m..

In 2019, the Township of Green Brook and dozens of other select recipients from around the nation were awarded a $30,000 grant from NFC to help support the program. In 2020, FitRadio awarded a $10,000 grant to further support the Fitness Court. In addition to the grant funding, a township match and local sponsorship from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset were contributed to make the project possible in Green Brook.

“We are committed to promoting the health of our communities and are proud to sponsor this new Fitness Court to make it easier for people to exercise and lead a healthy, active lifestyle,” said Tony Cava, president and chief executive officer of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset.

“Having a free and easily accessible Fitness Court at our newly built Arthur L. Lewis Park will continue to benefit Green Brook residents and people from surrounding communities for many years to come. We would like to thank Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset and FitRadio for their generous financial contribution as well as their passion for making Green Brook a healthier community,” said Kelly Cupit, Township Business Administrator.

The new Fitness Court® at Arthur Lewis Park is an open-air wellness center that allows users to leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout. Created with adults of all ages in mind, the Fitness Court is adaptable for all fitness levels. New users can also download the free Fitness Court App — a coach-in-your-pocket style platform — that transforms the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness ecosystem. The Fitness Court App, entitled “Fitness Court”, is available for iOS and Android.

National Fitness Campaign developed the trademarked seven-station system in 2012 hoping to inspire municipalities to transform public spaces into community fitness hubs. There are currently 100 active Fitness Court locations across the country, and the Campaign will reach a total of 250 cities and schools by the end of 2021.

“The Fitness Court will provide individuals the opportunity to design a workout that meets their healthy lifestyle goals. Combining healthy eating and committing to using the Fitness Court 3 days a week for 7 minutes each day, you are on your way to a healthier future!”, said Dan Reeve, Municipal Services Coordinator.
