You Can Change a Life by Becoming a Literacy Volunteer

Online Tutors Change Lives

In an hour a week, you can change someone’s life by becoming a literacy volunteer.

Literacy Volunteers of Morris County helps adults in our community improve their lives by improving their ability to read, write and speak English fluently. LVMC provides volunteer tutors with full on-line training. No previous teaching experience or ability to speak a foreign language is required – just a desire to help and the ability to spend one hour a week with a student.

LVVMC accepts volunteers over 18 years of age who:

§ Have graduated from high school.

§ Speak, read and write English with native fluency.

§ Are willing to help a student who lives or works in Morris County.

The non-profit asks tutors to spend one hour each week with their student. Currently all instruction is remote, via Zoom, Google Meetings, WhatsApp, or FaceTime.

Both tutors and students benefit from the time they spend together. Students find their lives are enriched as they learn to read, write, and speak English. Tutors are rewarded by knowing they have helped their student learn and grow.

To learn more about tutoring, visit the website at lvmorris.org to watch the orientation video on the Become a Tutor tab, call (973) 984-1998 or email  bevin@lvmorris.org.
