Westfield Honors its 49 Residents Lost to COVID-19

Westfield Honors Residents Lost to COVID

The Town of Westfield gathered together to honor its 49 residents lost to COVID-19 on Tuesday, January 19, as part of a broader, nationwide moment of remembrance.

A brief service in Mindowaskin Park, which was co-hosted by Mayor Shelley Brindle and the Town Council with members of the Town’s ministerium, was live streamed for the public on the Town’s Facebook page @ Town of Westfield, New Jersey.  Due to gathering restrictions and increasing COVID case numbers, residents were asked to participate virtually rather than in-person. 49 candles, one for each Westfield resident lost to COVID, was lit for the ceremony.

Following the brief program all church bells rang in Town. Residents were asked to place a light in a window or light a candle in honor of the lives lost. Residents were also invited to post remembrances on the live stream for any loved one they may have lost to COVID.
