Police Captain Robert Deitch Retires

Berkeley Heights Police Captain Robert Deitch retired on December 31, 2020. Rob was raised in Berkeley Heights and attended Governor Livingston High School. He was initially hired on May 5, 1995 as a Police Dispatcher with the Berkeley Heights Police Department. He distinguished himself in that capacity and was sent to the John H. Stamler Police Academy in January of 1996 for certification as a Police Officer, beginning his service to the Township “on the road” in June of 1996.

As a Patrol Officer Rob was known for his tireless work ethic and commitment to motor vehicle and narcotics enforcement. He served on the Essex/Union Auto Theft Task Force for many years, distinguishing himself with that unit enough to be named Supervisor by ATTF Command.

Rob was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2001 and then named Traffic/Safety Sergeant in 2011. As Traffic Sergeant Rob worked tirelessly to improve the crossing guard program and address the traffic safety needs of a Township with ever-increasing traffic volume. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2014 and Captain in 2016.

Thank you for your 25 years of faithful and honorable service to the Township, County and State of NJ, Captain. We wish you health and happiness in all future endeavors with Kristie, Emily, and Tim. You will be missed.
