Operation Secure Shred to Occur on Aug. 29
Free Document Shredding for Residents to Help Protect Against Identity Theft and Save the Environment
Shred documents at the Somerset County Public Works Garage on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Somerset County and Hillsborough are sponsoring Operation Secure Shred on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Somerset County Public Works Garage, South County Facility,located at 410 Roycefield Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until the trucks are filled. The event is a free and easy way for residents to help guard against identity theft and protect the environment. Residents can watch while their documents are shredded. The event will occur rain or shine.
To comply with social distancing guidelines, residents must wear facial coverings and should be prepared to unload their items, but staff will be available to help if necessary.
“Not only can shredding documents help protect residents from identity theft, but this free service helps save trees, energy and water while reducing landfill use,” said Freeholder Melonie Marano, public works liaison. “To ensure residents’ privacy, trained, licensed, and bonded document-destruction specialists will completely shred documents and dispose of the material by properly recycling the collections.”
Proof of residency is required: Residents should be prepared to present a current driver’s license, valid lease, tax bill or any other bill with a Somerset County address. Pre-registration is not required. Businesses and commercial vehicles are NOT allowed.
Residents from all 21 Somerset County municipalities can attend as many shredding events, as they like, and can participate even if they do not reside in the towns that are holding the events. To view a list of upcoming shredding events, visit www.co.somerset.nj.us/shredding.
Residents can bring up to six boxes, containers or bags of documents per visit, but residents will be required to take back their receptacles. Staples and paperclips do not have to be removed. Junk mail, magazines and newspapers will not be accepted.
