Mountainside Borough Launches “Neighbor/Senior Buddy” Program

Mountainside’s “Neighbor/Senior Buddy” Program

Rachel Pater, Councilwoman

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Mountainside launched a “neighbor/senior buddy” program.  Under the director of Senior Coordinator Kim Moriak,  volunteers are paired with a senior or someone in need to shop for groceries and deliver meals weekly.  More than 30 volunteers are in place who have adopted a senior.  Local restaurants to include Mazzella’s, the Mountainside Deli and Mosiaco and Chrone’s Tavern are providing either free or reduced cost meals weekly.  Volunteers meet at the Mountainside Public Library where the meals are distributed and ultimately delivered to the seniors.

“I’m so proud of all the volunteers who have stepped up in this time of crisis,” said Mayor Paul Mirabelli. “Our seniors are the backbone of this community and I know they are so appreciative of these efforts to keep them safe. I would like to thank Kim Moriak and all the volunteers who are helping those in need.”

If someone is in need of a volunteer for shopping or food delivery, please contact Senior Coordinator Kim Moriak at 908-812-4434 or kmoriak@mountainside-nj.com.
