Former Westfield Teacher, Angela LaCarrubba, Visits Franklin School
Former Westfield teacher Angela LaCarrubba, now a children’s author, visited Franklin School on October 7th, 2019, to speak to students about the writing and publishing process as well as the importance of acceptance, a key theme of her book Nobody’s Purr-fect (Especially Not Georgie).
The book tells the story of the fictional LoSanto family and their mischievous feline, Georgie. LaCarrubba, an elementary school teacher in the Westfield Public Schools for more than 20 years, based the main character on her own cat and describes her story as a lesson on “loving and accepting our pets and each other, despite our imperfections.”
“The message went along nicely with our district’s continuing focus on kindness and respect,” says Franklin second grade teacher Karen Reichel. “The information she provided on the publication process also was quite interesting for the students.”
Reichel, who with librarian/media specialist Rachel Kennedy and second grade teacher Scarlett Vaglio arranged the author’s visit, says LaCarrubba encouraged students to use real life instances from their own lives, as she did, to create compelling stories. LaCarrubba is currently working on a sequel to the tale of Georgie and the LoSanto family.
