Firefighter Anthony J. Devito “AJ” of Kenilworth
(Apr 14, 1989 – Aug 16, 2019)
AJ was a proud volunteer firefighter for the Kenilworth NJ Volunteer Fire Department since 2015. He worked for the County of Union, NJ for ten years in Park Maintenance and was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3197 Hillside, the Italian American Police Society of NJ and the American Legion.
All who knew AJ knew a true friend. Loyal, hardworking, heart of gold, kind soul, full of life, always smiling…were synonymous with AJ DeVito. He was the type of friend we all wish we had more of, and the friend we should all aspire to be more like. If there was work to be done, you can rest assured that AJ was already on it. That black shield on his fire helmet emblazoned with the number “63” was something he worked extremely hard for. He earned it and the utmost respect from all his brothers and sisters at the Kenilworth, NJ Volunteer Fire Department. He loved being part of this brotherhood and we will miss him terribly.
True to AJ’s nature his family would like all donations to be made to the Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Rescue Support Organization where we will set up a memorial fund in his name. AJ’s friendship will never be forgotten and we would like to use his name to continue to do good deeds and impact the lives of young people of similar quality and help them achieve their goals. AJ’s legacy is one of inspiration. We are all better people for having had him in our lives, and all of us here at the Kenilworth Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad would like to continue to bring him into people’s lives through the establishment of the AJ DeVito Memorial Fund.
AJ was laid to rest with Full Fire Department Honors on Tuesday, August 20, 2019.
Rest easy Brother, we’ll take it from here.
