Calvary Lutheran Church’s Shoe Collection a Success

Calvary Lutheran Church Thanks Community for

Helping to Make Shoe Collection a Success

More than 700 pairs of shoes were donated on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at Calvary Lutheran Church.  All shoes will go to Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization working to end global poverty. Soles4Souls also helps victims of disasters, like those impacted by Hurricane Dorian.  The shoe collection was an overwhelming success thanks to the congregation, community members, Calvary Nursery School and Child Care families and members of the Christian Education Program at the First United Methodist Church of Westfield.

Calvary collected shoes as part of a Climate Fair which focused on ways to better take care of God’s earth.  The church also collected 1400 plastic shopping bags for recycling. Everyone who turned in plastic bags got a reusable Calvary bag in exchange.

The Climate Fair was Calvary’s way of engaging in service on “God’s Work, Our Hands” Sunday, a day set aside by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) for members to make a positive change in their community.

Calvary Lutheran Church is located at 108 Eastman Street in Cranford. For more information about our congregation and opportunities to worship call the office at 908-276-2418 or go to calvarycranford.com.  More information about the ELCA is available at ELCA.org.  You can learn more about the good work done by Soles4Souls at soles4souls.org.
