Mayor Bonnacorso Discusses Citizenship with Troop 145
Mayor Sal Bonnacorso recently talked to the Scouts of Troop 145 about citizenship so that the Scouts could fulfill a requirement for rank advancement. Mayor Sal spent nearly 90 minutes with the Troop discussing a wide range of topics including our rights and responsibilities as citizens of the United States and our Clark community, as well as environmental issues like storm water management and the cleanliness and wellbeing of our reservoir.
Mayor Sal began with a discussion about the Bill of Rights in the constitution and then described how our local Clark government works versus other surrounding towns such as Scotch Plains and Cranford. He even spent some time explaining partisan politics to the boys. The Scouts were particularly fascinated with Mayor Bonnacorso’s stories about our town’s past and the times he got to attend events with former Presidents of the United States. The Mayor ended his discussion with information about storm water protection as well as plans for dredging the Clark reservoir.
Some of the older Scouts found the discussion intriguing enough to ask about ways youths can get more involved in local politics in Clark. Mayor Sal offered to help anyone who wants to get involved in, or better understand, the political process.
Boy Scout Troop 145 is an active Troop of young men who dedicate themselves to the values of Scouting while learning and having fun in a safe environment. Scouting teaches leadership, citizenship and volunteerism, as well as appreciation for the outdoors. Most of the Scouts in Troop 145 achieve the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.
