Adele DeLeeuw Scholarship Fund Awards Scholarships at Annual Dinner
Nine students representing Plainfield, North Plainfield, and South Plainfield high schools received a total of $19,800 in new and continuing scholarships from the Adele DeLeeuw Scholarship Fund at a dinner held Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the Spain Inn in Piscataway. The scholarships are financed by a bequest from Adele DeLeeuw, longtime Plainfield resident, author of 75 books, journalist and arts activist.
The Rotary Club of the Plainfields (Plainfield, North Plainfield and South Plainfield) administers the Adele DeLeeuw Scholarship Fund and is one of four Rotary clubs that provide scholarships from the Fund to students in their communities who pursue a course of study in poetry, art, journalism, writing or engineering. Fifty-nine thousand dollars was distributed this year to twenty-three area students by the Fund, a fund of the Plainfield Foundation. This year’s awards bring the Fund’s twenty-four year total distribution to over 1.4 million dollars.
The Scholarship Fund provided new scholarships to high school graduating students Lynda Farinella, Wyatt Gerber and Brandon Pascale all from South Plainfield. Continuing scholarships recipients were Kenar Myers from Plainfield and Scott Riccardi from South Plainfield. Adele DeLeeuw Scholars, students who were a recipient of the Scholarship Fund for all four years were Brenda Okereke from North Plainfield and Nolan Berry, Tyler Curtis and Nicholas Ruzicka from South Plainfield. An additional fourteen students from area high schools received scholarships from the Fund.
