Chris Beck presents to the Rotary Club of Westfield
On Tuesday, April 2, 2019 Chris Beck related his experiences on Broadway to the Rotary Club of Westfield. He was an investor in a show called Merrily We Roll Along with Hal Prince directing, Steven Sondheim producing, and starring Jason Alexander. This created an engaging discussion among the club members about their experiences with Broadway shows. One notable story was when the Harry Frazee, the owner of the Boston Red Sox, needed funds to invest in a Broadway show in 1919. He sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees for $100,000, which the Boston fans came to regret. That started the 85 year long “curse of the bambino.”
The Rotary Club of Westfield meets the first three Tuesdays of the month for lunch at the Westfield Area Y. Guests are always welcome. Contact Secretary Dr. D. Michael Hart drmhart@yahoo.com.
