With the arrival of 22 first graders from Salt Brook Elementary School, the New Providence Historical Society’s Salt Box museum welcomed its 1,000th visitor from the New Providence school district. To mark the occasion New Providence mayor Al Morgan was on hand to meet the kids and help guide them through the museum for their visit. The museum began its partnership with the district three years ago and now collaborates with them on several programs. In addition to the first grade tour, the third grade classes visit the museum in the spring. Last year New Providence High School AP United States History students carried out research on the museums’ varied collection and shared their findings with the museum. Some of those papers will be published this year as part of the ongoing collaboration between the school district and the historical society.
