All’s Well That Ends Well is one of Shakespeare’s problem plays. Helena loves Bertram, but he is far above her station. Bertram’s father has just died and he leaves to be in service to the King of France who is sick and dying. Helena, a physicians daughter, is determined to be in the presence of Bertram, and decides to pursue this by curing the king and in return asking for Bertram’s hand in marriage. She succeeds in curing the king, but not in winning Bertram’s heart. Bertram flees his marriage to run off to the wars. But Helena is not done pursuing Bertram. What will happen in this comedy of wits and manipulation, clowns, and kings? Come find out this July!
The Hudson Shakespeare Company of Jersey City was founded in 1992. Funding for “The Bard on the Boulevard” has been made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs.
