Blueberry Contest at Summit Farmers on Sunday, July 8

Summit Downtown, Inc. will hold its first Sunday Funday contest of the 2018 season at the Summit Farmers Market on Sunday, July 8.
Amateur bakers are invited to bring their best blueberry muffins to the Summit Farmers Market by 10:45 a.m. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome! Judging begins at 11 a.m. Muffins will be judged on their flavor, texture, and appearance. After the muffins are judged, the public will be able to sample them!
Entrants must bring a half dozen (6) muffins, which must be made from scratch; no canned ingredients or boxed mixes allowed. Entrants must bring a copy of their recipe to the contest with them. The winners will receive Fun Money to be spent at the market. To register for the first Sunday Funday of the season, please visit summitfarmersmarket.com.
The panel of esteemed judges will be comprised of Mayor Nora Radest, Jeanny Race, and Carol Nurmi. Jeanny Race is the owner of Race Farms along with her husband Doug Race. Carol Nurmi is the owner of Sweet Carol’s and is a Blue-Ribbon winner of several of her jams.
The Summit Farmers Market Reusable Bag will also be available for sale for $3 each, or $5 for two bags; cash only. Any profits will benefit the Summit Green Team, a volunteer group who support the city’s Environmental Commission.
The next Sunday Funday activity will be the Salsa Contest on September 30, followed by Pumpkin Painting on October 28 and the final event will be the Apple Pie Contest on November 4. The market is run by Summit Downtown, Inc. and is located in Park & Shop Lot No. 2, at the corner of DeForest Avenue and Maple Street.
