Mariana Hay Caldwell, 99, of Fanwood, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018. Born in Philadelphia, Mariana grew up in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where she attended and graduated from Johnstown High School. She then studied at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Fine Arts. She also went on to attend Temple University, with a Master’s Degree in Music and Fine Arts.
She was a resident of Fanwood for over 70 years, and a longtime member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Scotch Plains. She was a musician, playing the violin with the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra for many years as well as an active member of the Westfield Music Club.
Mariana was predeceased by her husband, Brent Caldwell, in 1974; her grandson, William Caldwell; and son-in-law, Jeffrey Jaczko. Surviving are her four children; Brent Caldwell and his wife, Linda; Blythe “Bonnie” Jaczko; Austin Caldwell and his wife, Nancy; and Louise Boyton and her husband, Tom; and her brother, George Austin Hay. She is also survived by her nine beloved grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Donations may be made in Mariana’s memory to the Fanwood Rescue Squad Fanwood, New Jersey; or to All Saints Episcopal Church in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
