Do you own a surveillance camera at your home or business that records video footage and want to help the police solve crime?
Chief Allan Attanasio of the Mountainside Police Department has announced a new crime prevention program named “An Eye On Crime” which the department is participating in. The goal of the camera registry program is to deter crime and promote public safety through a collaboration between the Mountainside Police Department and the community we serve.
The program allows residents and business owners to register their exterior video cameras with the police. This provides detectives with contact information of the camera owner. Should a crime occur in their neighborhood, detectives will request that the video owner view their footage and share any suspicious activity, persons or vehicles with them.
Registration is entirely voluntary and the police department will not have access to your camera feed or recorded footage. Personal information gathered is for official use only and will not be released to any member of the general public.
If you are interested in participation in this program, print and complete the registration forms and mail them to the Mountainside Police Department. The registration forms can be found on the Mountainside Police Department Facebook page or on their website at http://www.mountainside-nj.com/dept/police.
