Sixth grader Anmol Bhatia excelled at the 2017 Scripps National Spelling Bee. He went as the representative of both Green Brook Middle School and Somerset County to Washington DC to compete with 291 other spellers from around the nation.
Bhatia passed through the first two preliminary rounds, correctly spelling words like “otology,” “inviolable,” “stevia,” and “fluoroscope.” Bhatia was just short of making the top forty for the finals, achieving a score of 27, just short of the requisite 29.
Bhatia is ready to go back again in his seventh grade year, though, saying, “I’m really excited to go back and do all of that again. It was such a great experience.”
