Linden Public Schools is pleased to announce that our Linden High School Navy JROTC cadet, Daniel Tarnawski, was accepted into the Naval Academy. This is an extremely prestigious appointment. They currently have an 8% acceptance rate, with approximately 17,000 applicants competing for 1,350 appointments. They are ranked in the top 10 in just about every category in the national college rankings, including #1 Public School.
Congressman Donald Payne Jr. nominated Daniel Tarnawski to United States Naval Academy. Each year, members of congress nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.; U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.; U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
Linden High School NJROTC held a ceremony at the Susan L. Hudak auditorium on May 9th, 2017 to recognize Cadet Tarnawski’s accomplishments. Daniel received well wishes, resolutions, proclamations and recognition from local leaders, Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, New Jersey State Assembly, and the New Jersey State Senate who congratulated him on his accomplishments. Congressman Donald Payne Jr. was the guest speaker and he spoke of the lengthy process involved in receiving one of these appointments and expressed his gratitude to Daniel for his decision to serve his country as a United States Naval Officer. He also presented Cadet Tarnawski with an American flag that flew over the United States Capital.
Daniel Tarnawski was born and raised in Linden, NJ. He has been educated in the Linden Public Schools throughout his years. His parents, Paul and Agnes, immigrated from Poland and settled in Linden. He has two older sisters Angelica and Monica, who also attended Linden Public Schools. Daniel is a candidate for the prestigious International Baccalaureate certificate program at Linden High School. He is a 4-year Varsity letterman for the school’s swim team and served as the team Captain for his senior year. He is also a member of the Union County Rugby Team. Daniel has been part of the Linden High School Navy JROTC for the last 4 years. As a cadet, he is a member of the Air Rifle, Athletic, and Academic teams. He achieved the rank of Cadet/Lieutenant Commander during his Senior year and served as a Battalion Executive Officer. While at the Naval Academy Daniel will be studying Electrical Engineering.
Linden Public Schools proudly acknowledges Cadet Daniel Tarnawski’s leadership, character, determination, and sacrifice. He is truly one of the best of the best of his generation at Linden High School.
