Jennifer Rose Cappucci of Cranford, N.J. has committed to play NCAA basketball at Franklin & Marshall College in the fall. Jen, an honor student at Mount Saint Mary Academy, has maintained a brilliant balance of academics, volunteerism and leadership on both the soccer field and basketball court throughout her high school years.
A multi-sport athlete, Cappucci showed amazing promise as a young athlete playing in the Cranford Premier Soccer, Cranford Rec and PAL basketball leagues. She was coached on the soccer field, from Kindergarten through 8th grade, by her dedicated father, Michael. The Cranford Lightning team dominated their flight in the Mid New Jersey Youth Soccer League for years. Jen says, “I can credit my father with teaching me the fundamentals of sports. He is a wonderful man, father, athlete and coach. He fostered my passion for both soccer and basketball. He not only taught me skill set, but taught me to embrace the importance of practice, dedication and remaining humble. He emphasized that I must always model good sportsmanship and most critically, explained the inherent value of being a member of a team and the responsibility that accompanies functioning as a TRUE team player.”
Throughout high school, Cappucci earned recognition at the club level as a valued member of FC Premier’s Legend. A three-year Varsity starter and Captain of the Mt. St. Mary Academy Lions, she led her soccer team to victory this Fall as they captured the title of Skyland Conference Champions and were Semi-finalists of both the County and State Tournaments. Cappucci was named to the All Skyland Conference 2016 Soccer team. MSMA Coach Phil Iuliano praised, “Jennifer’s commitment level, passion for the game and leadership qualities both on and off the field are superb. Her outgoing personality and genuine concern and care for others has earned her the utmost respect from her peers, teammates, and coaching staff.”
In addition to the soccer field, Cappucci was a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. At five feet, three inches tall, this four year Varsity player dominated as point guard and Captain of her beloved Lady Lions. She rightfully earned top honors and was named to the All Skyland Conference 2016-17 Basketball team. At the club level, Jen finished her AAU career as a member of the esteemed Adidas sponsored, NJ Panthers. “Jennifer may be tiny, but this girl is a warrior!” Cappucci says that she “is really excited for the future. “I am fortunate to have had incredible support from my parents, siblings, coaches and teammates over the years. I have learned invaluable lessons as a member of sports teams. I am thrilled and honored to be given the opportunity to embrace my dream of being a college ball player. I can’t wait to be a contributing member of the Franklin & Marshall community.”
