New Providence Fire Department Awards Dinner

On March 18th the New Providence Fire Department held their annual Firefighters’ Dinner. The Department presented several awards.
Michael Allocco was honored for  65 years of service and Mayor Al Morgan presented him with a proclamation, a miniature Borough clock, and declared June 3rd Michael Allocco day. The Borough will be placing a street sign at the entrance to the firehouse designating it Allocco Way.
Mayor Morgan also gave a proclamation to Emil Koref for 59 years of service.
2016 Chiefs Award
Fire Chief Joe Parlapiano presented three awards. The first was the 2016 Chiefs Award. It is an award issued for continued dedication, hard work and service to the department. It was awarded to Fred Gaghan. In his 40 years with the department, Fred held the positions of Assistant Secretary, Relief Secretary, Secretary, Captain, and Deputy Chief.
2016 Fire Officer of the year
The 2016 Fire Officer of the year award was given to Captain Robert Mercado. Chief Parlapiano stated “Rob was instrumental in securing multiple grants as well as dealing with numerous sales representatives. Without Rob, I could not have succeeded in my first year as Chief.”
2016 Fireman of the Year
Lastly, the 2016 Fireman of the Year award was issued to Will Zagorski. Chief Parlapiano stated “Will joined our department as a junior member and then as a full member when he turned 18. He attended over 95% of training and drills as well as being at most of our community events. On top of attending college full-time and working he also volunteers for the EMS in the Borough and attended EMT school. While doing all of this, he still managed to have one of the highest fire call percentages in the department.”
