New Providence resident and teacher Dr. Keith Mason has published an article in the March 2017 issue of Choral Director. The article promotes student learning using the Lin-Manuel Miranda Broadway hit “Hamilton” that received 11 Tony Awards last year. His presentation suggests classroom activities and may be accessed on line at choraldirectormagazine.com. Dr. Mason has written extensively about the connection between musicals and the school curriculum. Several of his educational articles marked milestone anniversaries of musicals such as “My Fair Lady,” “The Sound of Music,” “Oklahoma!,” “Singin’ in the Rain,” “West Side Story,” and “Bye Bye Birdie.” Dr. Mason believes that musicals can have a powerful educational impact on student learning and he continues to devise ways to impact as many subject areas as possible.
